For a little extra piece of mind, you can arrange an overdraft with your Select bank account. You can apply for an Arranged Overdraft within the Select account application form.

An Arranged Overdraft is an overdraft that we have approved for you and you can borrow up to that limit. This means you can get access to additional money if you ever need it (subject to eligibility, over 18's only).

Bank easily with our mobile app

Our mobile app is designed to be simple and straightforward to use so you can manage your money on the move. You can check your balance, recent transactions and pay friends or family quickly and easily.

Get cash without your debit card

Our mobile app ‘Get Cash’ function lets you withdraw money (up to £130 of your money per day) from Royal Financial of Scotland, NatWest or Tesco cash machines, so you don’t even need your debit card. It's great for those times, when you pop out during your lunch hour, but don't have cash on you.


Pay your mates easily

The ‘Pay Your Contacts’ option allows you to pay money to anyone using their mobile number, providing they have the Royal Bank, NatWest, Ulster Bank, NatWest Offshore or Isle of Man mobile app. All you need to do is open your mobile app, click on the ‘Pay Your Contacts’ option, enter their mobile number, the amount you want to pay them and add a personal message.


You can send up to £250 a day, how easy is that! Pay Your Contacts is available for Royal Bank customers on Android, iPhone, BlackBerry10, Windows and Kindle app.


Our mobile app is available on most smartphones, to Royal Bank customers with Digital Banking and a UK mobile number.

You can open a Joint bank account with Select

The Select bank account can be opened as a Joint bank account if you wish. So two parties can have control over the one account.

If you need to make payments that come from two parties, such as household bills, a joint bank account could be ideal. You can even set up a standing order for the money to automatically go into the account.


Keep in mind that you will need application details for both people who are looking to open the joint account.

How to open your bank account online

What you need when opening an account

Opening a new bank account with us is easy. See below the information you need to complete your online application.

  • Your monthly income after tax.
  • Your monthly outgoings (for example how much you pay on rent or mortgage repayments).
  • Your full address for the past 3 years. Remember to enter your postcode without a space.
  • A valid passport, UK driving licence or an EU ID card.


When you open your account online, remember to keep note of the reference number from your application as you will need this if you want to discuss your application with us.

How to submit ID documents online rather than in branch

To help open your account straightaway, by law we need to check your details to confirm your identity. You can provide your ID online if you provide us with your mobile number.

You can then upload a valid passportUK driving licence or an EU ID card using our DigiDocs service. This allows you to submit your ID anytime, anywhere and on any device.


If you would prefer not to provide your mobile number, that's ok, but you might need to visit a branch to supply your ID instead.

How to switch banks - it's easy!

You can use our 'Switching Service' to switch your bank accounts from one UK bank or building society to another. It takes just seven working days and we will manage the switch on your behalf.

Within our application form we we will ask you if you would like to use our Switching Service and, if you do, you just need to have the sort code and account number of the bank account you would like to switch from on hand.


On your switch date, your payments, such as Direct Debits, Standing Orders and bill payments, will transfer to your new account. Any credit balance from your old account will have been transferred, your new account will be ready to use and your old account will be closed, if you wish.
